Puppeteers

Online co-op 3D puzzle-platformer where your grappling hook is both weapon and movement.

Overview

Puppeteers is an online co-op 3D puzzle-platformer. Players use a grappling hook both to fight enemies and to move around the map. Physics-based cubes and triangles are spread across each level: players can pick them up and throw them, placing them next to a high ledge to climb up and reach it.

We made it in Unreal Engine 5 with C++ as a team of three, as a course project at ESAT during the second semester of 2026. My work focused on the online side of the game and on some of its gameplay features.

What I did

Online sessions with EOS

I set up Epic Online Services through the EOS Integration Kit (EIK) plugin and built the lobby system on top of it. Players can create a session, or open a session browser that lists every active session and join one from there.

Replicated ragdoll

A basic ragdoll for both the player characters and the enemies, replicated over the network so every player sees it.

Sprint VFX

A cartoon-style Niagara effect: puffs of smoke come out of the character's feet while sprinting. It's replicated too, so the other players see it as well.
